Dental implants are the recommended procedure whenever someone loses a tooth. Implants are a highly beneficial and affordable way to restore your smile.

At West Georgia Family Dentistry, you are important to us. Knowing each individual well helps us develop a personally customized treatment plan for you, including dental implants. Here’s how the implant process works.

What Dental Implants Are & How They’re Placed

Dental implants are anchors that permanently support replacement teeth. They’re secure and durable and can be cleaned and cared for much like your natural teeth. The artificial teeth, called crowns, are custom made to match your smile and fit properly in your mouth.

The purpose of an implant is to replace a tooth while preserving your bite strength. Dentures provide only a fraction of your bite strength while implants can preserve 80-100% of it. Implants also reinforce your jawbone, preventing your teeth from drifting and the jaw bone from degrading.

The procedure involves placing a titanium root where your tooth’s root was. The root is anchored to your jaw bone and left alone to heal before we attach a support post and false tooth to the titanium root. Healing takes anywhere from six weeks to six months.

While dental implants can be a little pricey up front, they’re one of the most money savvy ways to fix your smile in the long term. It's the closest thing to having your natural tooth/teeth back.

The only thing is not everyone is a good candidate for dental implants. You have to have healthy bone tissue in your mouth and jaw, a prerequisite for a successful procedure.
